"Fun fact: the term ‘belly button’ is actually short for and derived from the full title ‘Annabellybutton’ as an Annabelle (a.k.a. Queen of Belly Buttons), it is my duty to impart this wisdom upon others. You are very welcome.
Before lockdown began, my head was swimming with ideas for shoots to do, playing with the ideas of masculinity and femininity, in particular, blurring the lines between the two. Obviously, right now, I have no idea what a post-lockdown world is going to look like, so it could be a while before I am able to bring those shoots to life but I started to think about what I could do to fulfil some of those ideas now. I don’t like the idea of masculinity and femininity being two opposite ends of a spectrum – masculinity being hard and strong and femininity being soft and delicate. I hate the divide between the two. I think they are both at their strongest mixed with the other, when there is no divide between the two at all.
The title of the image comes from the song ‘Half Ladies’ by Christine and the Queens.”
